DP Tom Guilmette took on an assignment at the top of Mt. Washington in New Hampshire, nicknamed Home of the Worlds Worst Weather. He packed his trusted Vinten Vision 100 support system and ascended by Snow Cat to the summit buildings. Shooting conditions were extreme. Guilmette dealt with high winds and temperatures below -20°F (-29°C).

At Londons Royal Opera House, XL supplied the centre-stage LED screen, built from Pixled FX-11, 12 tiles wide by 7 tiles high, which linked up with the ITV broadcast feed and displayed live camera relay, VT clips and nomination packages.

The main screen was matched on either side by two dynamic portrait orientated screens measuring 5 x 6 tiles and 5 x 8 tiles respectively, which showed nominee logos, special guest awards and Olivier logos.

The IABM (International Association of Broadcasting Manufacturers) today announced that it is accepting applications for the 2013 IABM Engineering Student Awards, which not only recognize high-achieving university and college students in the fields of broadcast engineering or media technology, but also gives the award winners financial support for attending IBC2013 next September in Amsterdam. The awards are funded by the IABM Educational Foundation.

FOR-A to Showcase FT-ONE 4K Super Slow Mo Camera at Cine Gear Expo 2013

FOR-A Corporation of America plans to showcase its FT-ONE full 4K super slow motion camera at the upcoming Cine Gear Expo, taking place May 31-June 1 at The Studios at Paramount in Hollywood.   FOR-A will be in Booth #S323, where they will also display the FT-1READ -a RAW data to DPX converter available with the FT-ONE camera.

First introduced at last years Cine Gear Expo, the award-winning FT-ONE is ideal for digital cinematography applications. The camera is the first of its kind to complete the 4K workflow by introducing the ability to simultaneously record and play back super slow motion images at full 4K resolution. The FT-ONEs high-sensitivity CMOS color sensor, FT1-CMOS, enables high-speed recording at up to 900 frames per second (fps). The camera captures images as uncompressed raw data on the systems internal memory, which has a recording capacity of 9.4 seconds. This data is then stored on one of two hot-swappable SSD cartridges, each of which is capable of storing 84 seconds of full 4K resolution images.

Sonnet Releases Enhanced xMac mini Server

Sonnet today introduced a significant upgrade of its popular xMac(TM) mini Server, a Thunderbolt(TM)-to-PCI Express(R) (PCIe(R)) expansion system and 1U rackmount enclosure for a Mac(R) mini with a Thunderbolt port. The xMac mini Server accommodates one full-length, full-height PCIe card and one half-length, half-height (low-profile) card. The updated xMac mini Server now supports a double-width PCIe card's daughter card and includes BNC connector mounting holes on the enclosure's rear panel. In addition, the length of the xMac mini Server is now just 15.8 inches, making it ideal for deployment in a wider range of popular mobile racks, carts, and rack bags.
